A general eligibility of 240 credits is required, corresponding to 4 years full time university studies, or a university degree at an advanced (master) level or the equivalent competence.
Ph.D. Mathematicians Eligibility A Master’s degree is required to gain admission to a doctoral program. In cases, where the admission at the M.Phil. In other cases, where a candidate has done M.Phil. For some prestigious Universities, a candidate is required to qualify the all India level.
PhD students complete an independent research project under the guidance of a supervisory team. The research is normally completed over a maximum period of 3.0-3.5 years (full-time) or 6.0-6.5 years (part-time). A fourth year (full-time) or seventh year (part-time) or the remaining part of this can be used to prepare the thesis for examination.
Qualifications and academic eligibility. In most cases, a PhD applicant will need to show good performance at undergraduate level. This PhD entry requirement means at least a UK upper second class honours degree (2.1). This needs to be in a relevant discipline for the PhD study.
